If you're one of the few people on here that know me pretty closely, you would be privy to the fact that I absolutely
love the TV Show
So You Think You Can Dance (It comes on Fox, Wednesdays at 7cst and Thursday at 8cst). There are a few reasons I love it so much:
1. I love dancing in general
2. Hot boys (and girls if you're male) scantily clad [their sexual preferences vary]
3.
Good Great entertainment
If you're not familiar with the show's format, let me enlighten you. The first 2-3 weeks are the auditions, in which the show travels to several major cities around the US (and once in Mexico) looking for dance hopefuls. Much like the American Idol auditions, you get some really awesome dancers and some dancers that are so delusional they should be round-house kicked to the face. It's entertaining in itself. When you audition, there are 3 options for you: Straight to Vegas for further auditions, the choreography round to see if you know how to learn and perform a routine on the spot, or you go home.
Once they've picked all the best dancers (about 150), it's off to Vegas where the dancers endure vigorous auditions in many different styles and are subsequently eliminated after each round depending on their performances. By the end of all the rounds, they end up with about 30 or so of the best in which they have to whittle down to 20 (10 girls and 10 boys).
Now is when the fun begins! Each of the following Wednesdays, each of the couples performs a dance randomly chosen. The judges critique them after each dance but it is up to America to call and vote for their favorite. Note: I said favorite not best. Although, they probably coincide because all the dancers are phenomenal.
On the following Thursday, they have the “Results Show” in which they determine the bottom 3 couples based on the lowest amount of votes. All 6 dancers must then perform a 30 second solo of their own personal style of dance in order to impress the judges. It is then the judges’ job to choose one boy and one girl to go home that week. The remaining couples repeat the process the next week.
Now that you know how the show works, let me get on to the subject at hand. The other day I was watching Chelsea Lately on E! and during the “Round Table” segment where they bash celebrities and such, they said that SYTYCD was the “trashy” version of Dancing With the Stars [DWTS]. This really made me angry and I’ll tell you why. Simply put, SYTYCD is so much better of a show than DWTS. I’ll tell you why:
1.The dances on DWTS aren’t as good as SYTYCD because the stars are not trained dancers. I’d much rather watch [both] people that know what they’re doing than one professional and one struggling “star”.
2. Most of the dancers on SYTYCD have been training and dancing their whole lives, dreaming of being dancers. They put their heart and soul into dancing and being on the show really makes their dream come true. It's not just about getting on TV and publicity and all that like with DWTS.
3. All of the dancers are physically fit and in shape to do the various dances required of them. So there is little to no risk of bodily injury. Plus, it’s nice eye candy for us. I don’t know about you but I would prefer not to watch
Cloris Leachmen or
Steve Wozniak dance. While the professional dancers are quite good looking, that's only half the dancers. ALL of the SYTYCD dancers are hott (with
two T's).
4. With SYTYCD, there is a wider variety of dances which makes it more fun and exciting. Since the "stars" aren't trained in dance, they can't pull off many of the styles.
5. Its amazing seeing someone who is proficient in popping and locking do a contemporary or ballroom dance. Especially when it doesn't even look like they're struggling. It equates to the "stars" doing something they can't do like dancing in general.
6. With DWTS its just like "hey there's some people dancing, cool" but with SYTYCD, they tell stories with their movements, they make you feel things and make you think.
6.
There are probably a thousand more reasons why SYTYCD is better than DWTS but I don't have all day and this is getting pretty long.
If you had to choose, which would you watch?
SYTYCD or DWTS?

I don't particularly care for dancing shows. Not my thing.
SYTYCD FTW! It's really the only reality competition show I watch. Such great skills.
dude DWTS SUCKS in my opinion. It's so boring and the set looks like it's a show for old people
SYTYCD is pure pwnage. The choreaographers are awesome (Mia Michaels ftw) the contestants are young and fresh.
Also, the dances they perform on SYTYCD are fun to watch unlike the nasty old rusty dances they perform on DWTS
SYTYCD wins this easily! How could ANYBODY think that SYTYCD is in any way comparable to DWTS?!? That's about as ludicrous as calling Gary Coleman a politician!
SYTYCD has amazing talent! And yes, the girls IMO are super hottt (3 t's
)! Kayla, Randi, Caitlin and Janette. *whew*
SYTYCD. ftw. don't ask me, again. done.
SYTYCD hands down. I never understood the appeal of gathering all the D class celebrities you could and making them look stupid. Same thing with all the other celebrities shows. It's like hey, hey, I don't know who you are. GTFO my TV. I'd rather see cute little 20 year old boys making something out of themselves.
I choose Drano. Every time.
DTWS, hands down. Gilles is a godsend. The Woz wasn't the best thing to look at, wasn't that great at dancing either, but he sure did look like he was having the best time of his life. It's fun to watch stars do something they aren't good at, besides, like, life. You generally only see them while they're doing their thing, unless you happen to just love all those paparazzi pictures. Just makes them seem more...human.
i would choose DWTS... only because when i look at it at a glace it reads "dimwits"... exactly what everyone related to both those shows are :D sorry, lol
I've never been able to sit through an episode of DWTS .. Totally SYTYCD! I love it!
DWTS FTW. :)
SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE!!!!!
@StewieIsMyHero - Absotively!
Good Luck!
SYTYCD!
I won't watch Dancing with the Stars (- _ -)
How do you feel about America's Best Dance Crew???
Britain's Got Talent
I'd rather watch people who can dance, dance than celebrities. It's dumb that we put so much emphasis on fame. Talent breeds entertainment, or at least it should. Although, I admit, when people are terrible at something and think they're good, that's also entertaining. SYTYCD is better.
well ya'll do encourage it, so kinda... but nowhere near the level of the people who came up with, endorse, or produce it.
ryc: booo, there's no video. i see how it is. i'll get you.
